Itinerary:
Upon arrival in Jomsom, our local representative will receive you and take you to the resort. At 2800m, the resort is among the few places in Nepal where giant Himalayan peaks can be admired in such close proximity. About 500 feet below the resort is the Kali Gandaki River which flows downstream to form the deepest gorge in the world.
After checking in you will have breakfast and after some rest, we will visit the ancient stupas and painted cliff above the Marpha village, in the Kali Gandaki valley, and descend to the beautiful Marpha village situated at the altitude of 2650m, which is also known as the apple capital in the country. Here, we will visit the apple distillery to see the art of making Marpha brandy.
After having Thakali lunch in a local family-owned restaurant in Marpha, we will head towards charming Tukuche village, tucked along Himalayan slopes. It is a quiet unwashed town of cobbled streets and quaint white houses. After the Nepalese victory over Tibet, the Hindu Rana rulers gave Thakali leaders the title of Subba and allowed them to obtain a license to import rock salt from Tibet. Subbas reside here as it is famous for its trade area.
We will return back to the resort after the historic tour of Tukuche village.
Overnight: Moksha Mustang | Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
Indulge with a leisurely breakfast in the lap of Mt. Dhaulagiri and Mt. Nilgiri at Yharu-Zho Viewpoint (3,750m). Yharu-Zho is derived from the Thakali language which translates to English, Yha "Yak", Ru "Horn", Zho "Top of the hill".
An early morning journey to the viewpoint from the resort will take 4 hours hike or 45 minutes' drive where you can view astounding mountains and feel the warmth of morning sunshine.
While descending, visit Dhumba Lake which lies at the elevation of 2830 m. Also known as the Emerald Lake, this is one of the hidden gems of the region and the distance to this lake from our resort is about 6 km. The lake is beautiful with clear water at the base of Mt. Nilgiri and is considered a sacred Buddhist Lake.
After some rest, we will visit Thini village, the gateway to Tilicho lake. It is the oldest village of Mustang and originates from the Tibetan word Thin which means base or root in English.
We will drive back to the resort after the cultural tour of Thini village.
Lunch will be served at our Café New Fort, our signature in-house restaurant that is a tribute to Jomsom, which is also known as Dzongsam or New Fort.
Later in the evening, we will hike to Jomsom, the capital of Mustang district. Nestled below soaring Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri mountains, it is a perfect place to learn about local art, history, culture, and artifacts about Mustang.
After strolling around the village, we will return to the resort for some leisure time.
Overnight: Moksha Mustang | Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
After relishing in a scrumptious breakfast at Moksha overlooking the majestic Himalayas, we will take a jeep ride to visit Muktinath Temple (3,710m), sacred to both Buddhist and Hindu traditions. Attracted by a rather metaphysical belief, followers that take a bath in its natural cold spring pools filled up by 108 cow head spigots, are guaranteed salvation after human death. The temple is also widely recognized for its natural gas eternal flame and majestic views of the Himalayas. After the temple visit, you will have Thakali lunch in a local family-owned restaurant.
We continue our journey to the beautiful Jhong village and head back toward the hotel which will take around 1 hour. On the way, we will visit Kagbeni, a Tibetan village that is the only "Gateway to Upper Mustang" located in the Valley of Kali Gandaki River. Kagbeni lies in the route of Annapurna Circuit Trek which brings a great experience of walking through the narrow path between the old mud houses with colorful prayer flags.
We will drive back to the resort after the religious and cultural tour.
